Hornets confirm the appointment ahead of the 24/25 season.

We're pleased to announce that Ian Whitcombe has joined the first team coaching setup ahead of the 24/25 season.

Ian, known to many as Fergz, joined Hebburn as Reserve Team Manager in December 2023 and led the side for the remainder of the last campaign in the Northern Alliance League, working closely with the senior side to help to promote the player pathway from junior football right through to the first team.

Having enjoyed a successful playing career in Welsh football and with the RAF senior men's team, Whitcombe's coaching journey has taken him as far as Italy and Cyprus. He also enjoyed a spell with Whitley Bay prior to joining the Hornets last year.

His promotion from the Reserves to the first team is evidence of the club's commitment to providing opportunities for progression.

Taking on his new position, Whitcombe said, "it’s brilliant to make the step up from managing the Reserves to being on the staff with the first team. The club continues to move in the right direction and having the opportunity to be a part of it is fantastic. I’m looking forward to helping the lads have another successful season.”

Manager Daniel Moore said of the appointment, "I'm delighted that Ian has joined the coaching staff. We got to know Fergz last season when he was involved with the Reserves. He is a very good, enthusiastic coach and a fantastic bloke with great personal qualities."

Moore continued, "he believes in the same values and standards as us, which is important and having that extra pair of hands and eyes on training and match days will bring qualities to the back room staff. That is only going to be an asset to the team."

Following the change in role, Rob Blackburn has now stepped up to the Manager role with the Reserves and will continue to work closely with the first team management group.

We'd like to wish Ian and Rob the best of luck in their new roles.
