The Pitching In Northern Premier League East

The Lowdown

Hebburn continued their winning run on Tuesday night by beating Liversedge 2-0 in a match played at Emley AFC.

Inevitably it was Amar Purewal who gave Hebburn an early lead and despite being under pressure from Sedge as they looked for an equaliser, the points were made safe when Jack Donaghy doubled the lead.

The Hornets are now just two points behind leaders Stockton Town with two games in hand.

Ashington meanwhile played out a goalless draw with Winterton Rangers on home soil, a result which leaves the Colliers in 14th position.

Head-to-Head

Prior to the reverse fixture on Boxing Day, Hebburn and Ashington had not met since the days of being Northern League rivals.

Back in the curtailed 19/20 season when Hebburn finished top with only 12 games played, the sides met at Woodhorn Lane, and the Hornets recorded a comfortable 6-1 victory.

The prolific Cedwyn Scott grabbed two goals by midway through the first half, before completing his hattrick just after the hour mark.

Former Durham cricketer Ben Harmison grabbed one back a minute later for the home side, but Scott quickly added his fourth to restore the three goal advantage.

Olly Martin then came off the bench to add a brace of his own, rounding off the scoring in injury time.

It was a completely different scoreline 2 months back, however, as Ashington ran out 4-0 winners thanks to Wilson Kneeshaw's early strike, followed by a Connor Thomson hat trick.

Pre-Match Thoughts

Hebburn Manager Daniel Moore said "we'll have to look at it tomorrow and see what team we can get out on the pitch - there were 3 or 4 lads there that were really struggling through no fault of their own. Obviously we've had a player taken away from us for the next 3 games so as I said it's seeing what team we can get out."
