Hebburn Town Women 1-4 Boldon CA Ladies

Hebburn Town FC30 Jul 2023 - 20:04

By Cameron Houghton | Hebburn Town Women played their first ever game at Hebburn Sports Ground on Sunday afternoon.

Steven Gibson's side were defeated in pre-season action despite taking an early lead.

Hebburn took the lead in only the second minute as Kate Jackson bolted down the left wing, cutting in and slotting it home for The Hornets.

Hebburn came close six minutes later as Paige Graham squared the ball across the face of goal but with no answer on the end of it.

Boldon replied in the 13th minute as Teri Burke gave the visitors their first of the afternoon and the equaliser.

Only two minutes later Burke gave the visitors their second of the match putting it straight past Siobhan Rooney in the sticks.

In the 20th minute Rooney came to claim the ball and collided with the Boldon striker, with concerns of the striker's arm growing amongst the teams.

The game resumed and Hebburn looked to threaten the opposition with a one on one opportunity wasted by Jackson and Katie Scammell with a long range strike finding the keepers gloves.

With eight minutes of added time Hebburn pushed but couldn't seem to find the net.

The second half approached with Hebburn's hopes of clinching a comeback at home.

It started slow with not much action occurring - Boldon had a few chances with one effort cleared spectacularly off the line by Hebburn's Rebecca Gibson.

Boldon piled on the pressure and went ahead in the 71st minute, with Chloe Murtha finishing the ball into a open net after a save from the Hebburn goalkeeper ended up into the path of Murtha.

Hebburn responded with a strike from Chloe Ireland, which forced the Boldon goalkeeper to punch the ball onto the crossbar and clear away.

With three minutes to go Burke was through on goal and she made it her third of the afternoon and Boldon's fourth.

The game resulted in a win for the visitors in Hebburn Town Womens' first game at the Sports Ground with over 100 watching on.
