The South Tyneside native worked his way through the ranks at Newcastle United, inking his first professional deal in 2015.

He linked up with Blackpool on a short-term loan deal in March 2016, where he played eight times in League One.

Smith moved to Crewe Alexandra the season after, but an early injury disrupted his stay at Gresty Road.

The playmaker departed Newcastle in 2018 and joins Kevin Bolam's side following trial periods with the likes of Crewe and York City.

Smith is eligible to make his debut in Saturday's Pitching In Northern Premier League East Division clash against Stocksbridge Park Steels.
