The Lowdown
Hebburn return to home soil after consecutive away games and are looking to record their first win in a month. The Hornets sit 3rd in The Pitching In Northern Premier League East division with 15 points accumulated from their 7 games so far, although they have lost their last two league outings.
Last time out, Daniel Moore’s side lost 3-0 on a foggy night in Consett, with Zak Atkinson, Jack Gibbons and Arjun Purewal the scorers. Carlton meanwhile are 6th with 12 points from 5 games, and last time out they won 3-0 away to Grimsby Borough with goals from David Adegbola, Lamin Mennah and Alex Howes.
Head-to-Head
The two meetings last season took place ten days apart at the end of February and beginning of March, with the away side recording 2-0 wins on both occasions.
The first meeting at Carlton seen Hebburn net a goal in each half, with player-manager Moore opening the scoring in the first period, before Robbie Spence added to it just after the hour mark.
In the reverse fixture, Howes netted before the break, before Niall Davie gave the visitors more of a cushion in the 57th minute as they took the three points back to Nottinghamshire.
Pre-Match Thoughts
Assistant Manager Mark Hudson commented ahead of the game, “they’ve obviously started the season pretty well. They struggled last year, but I think they’ve recruited well, recruited players from higher leagues, and it’ll be a really tough game. We’ve had them watched and they went through in the Trophy on Saturday, so they’re still in that competition.”
On having a break from action last week, Hudson remarked, “I think it’s been a good two weeks we’ve had off really. We got beat by Consett 3-0 and we wanted to put it right straight away, but we had a lot of injuries and once you get to five or six injuries it starts taking its toll on the team. You can maybe get away with it with two, but five or six is just too many.”
Hudson was able to share some more positive news on the injury front. “This two weeks has enabled us to get three or four of them back. We’ve got the two lads with the broken arms, they’re still out. There’s obviously Grovesy back, Joe will be back and Briggsy will be back, so it’s looking a lot more healthy. We’re raring to go, we want to get a win on the table cos we won the first five, but we’ve lost the last two, so we want a reaction really.”
