In the lead up to Remembrance Sunday, volunteers from the Football Club have been helping the Royal British Legion with their preparations.

Last weekend, some of our Club Volunteers have been out working alongside Hebburn Branch of the Royal British Legion to place a cross on each of the Commonwealth War Graves in Hebburn and Jarrow cemeteries.
Every year the RBL will visit each grave a week before remembrance Sunday and ensure an individual cross of remembrance is placed on each, with over 200 graves across both cemeteries this is no small task.
The RBL reached out to the club as part of our ongoing collaboration and asked if we would like to help them with this this Year. When asked to provide support, The Club were of course more than happy to oblige.

On the experience Club Volunteer Steve Lundell said, “It has been quite humbling, looking at the headstones and seeing their ages. Some of them were 18.,19,20 years old - barely adults. It’s unimaginable what they must have went through. It’s been really worthwhile even just to play the smallest part in remembering the sacrifice they all made. “

Royal British Legion Treasurer Brian Stonehouse was grateful for The Club’s support “I’d like to thank everyone who gave up their time to help us this weekend. Everyone within the branch really appreciates the support we receive from Hebburn Town.”

As in previous seasons, The Club will be holding a remembrance ceremony prior to kick off at this Saturday’s game vs Prescott Cables, we will share more details of this with you all in due course.
