Summer football camps are a success

We’ve had an amazing six weeks in the summer, supporting lots of children within the local and wider community with our weekly football camps.

We held six camps over the school holidays, with three of these being completely free of charge as the club received funding from the Pitching In Northern Premier League's Trident Fund.

Working with South Tyneside Council’s HAF team, the free camps didn’t just provide football but the club also supplied a hot meal and drink everyday.

Hebburn Town's Chief Executive, Stephen Rutherford, shared: “This summer has been the first time we’ve ran camps throughout the full six-week holiday period.

"It’s been amazing to see the amount of children that have participated and as a club, we are extremely proud we could make a difference within our local community.

"Each week we have welcomed over 300 children (an average of 75 per day) and we've provided over 900 hot meals throughout the same period.

"We'd like to say a huge thanks to the cafe staff in Hebburn Sports Club and manager Sharon for supporting this project.

"I’d also like to thank our league sponsors Pitching In who supplied the funding to allow us to offer these free camps and as per our project objectives, we’ve started to see some of these children attend our weekly community sessions to continue their development in football.”

The club prides itself on our community engagement and supporting so many children shows our positive intent - we are working hard to offer similar free sessions in future holiday periods.

We’d like to thank all the staff and volunteers who supported us during the six-week period.

Finally, we thank the children for attending and wish them luck as they return to school this week.
